Vintage toys Of My Past
Because Barbie can be smart too! I was going through a bunch of my stuff while cleaning out the closet the other day and ran across this book “Barbie Solves a Mystery”. It is from 1963. This is when Barbie was made to be smart and intelligent and not just “Barbie gives birth, Barbie the rapper, and Barbie has tattoos”. Not that I mind them now, it was just before they had Barbie doing EVERYTHING trendy, harmful or not. In this book, Barbie is hired as a fashion writer for a newspaper and stats picking up clues that help solve the mystery of some glamorous citizen.  Now, I never read this book, nor do I plan too, but a Barbie collector may want it in there collection. I guess barbie needed to be like Nancy Drew for a while….

It’s been a ruff few weeks. I wanted to keep this going every week, but when your hit with a hurricane, then without power for 5days, and have a side business that is all run on the internet…you get backed up!     Well I went out to some yard sales today, found basically nothing!! There was a vintage Baribe pool which looked like one I had from the late 1980’s. As soon as we pulled up to the yard sale, the girl was putting it back in the garage. I told her I was eying it and she just laughed. So there went my score for the day.    I did get one score. This in box intellivision with 4 games. My mom had to laugh, as soon as I grabbed I guess I pissed a guy off cause he was coming from the other side to grab it to. oh well I win.    I will have another update this week. I have more to share :)btw if you like Reto Games…you can buy a ton here: http://retrocadegames.ecrater.com/

Know your Care Bears

After handling the old ones and the new ones I have come up with a checklist of ways to tell the old from the new. Hopefully this will help anyone wanting to know the difference. I see people all the time listing care bears as “vintage” when the actually are form 2003…

1. Check out the plastic: Old care  bears from the 1980’s are a heavy dull plastic, almost rubber like. New care bears are light and very glossy. they have a shine to them.

2. Where they are made: 1980’s Care bears are marked on there legs with hong kong. new ones are black ink that say china

3. there feet prints: check the bottom on there feet. Old care bears will have imprinted heats, new one will be colored in.

4. Hearts on the butt: Old care bears will have pained on little hearts where new care bears will have rained plastic painted ones.

5. Hair: Vintage care bears were made with actual synthetic hair puffs on there head, where new care bears only have plastic bumps.

these are all easy ways to identify them quickly. hope it helps!

Every little girl around the world had to have a cabbage patch kid. Parents all over had to fight just to grab one for Christmas. But, when there wasn’t a stuffed one to be had, these cute PVC posable dolls were very handy to have!

Xavier Roberts dreamed up the dolls and story behind them.
Made In 1984 PVC posable cabbage patch kids gave little girl sone more thing to “collect them all” series after series manufactures pumped out these 3” tall mini dolls in all colors. Some were baby’s, some were toddlers and even some animal dolls called koosas later on in 1985

After much research, I can not find much of anything on them. As for how much there worth, can’t really find that out either. Mint in box is always nice, ebay they go for what I think is a steal, yet I listed two of them on etsy, and they sold in 6hours for $3.00 each.

Ah, Miss Piggy. The glamorous pig that we all know and love or love to hate.  Last weekend I found her at a yard sale. Someones Aunt had passed and they were selling all her goodies. There was tons of vintage 1960 gogo clothing, we even found a pair of vinyl boot covers.  In a small pile os stuff animals, miss piggy lay there staring at me. I knew she was older, so I picked her up and looked at her tag, 1980. Her dirty face, but very clean and neat hair made me have to ask “how Much?”  I paid .50 for her.

After cleaning her face, and brushing her hair, Miss piggy was ready for the ball again. Dressed to impressed in her beautiful silver sparkle lavender evening gown with her bejeweled headband.

Made in 1981 this stuffed Miss piggy doll from Jim Hensons “The Muppets” was made as a dress up doll. Her dress has velcro to easily take on and off. She is also wearing an attached lavender chemise under the dress. If she were still in box she could be worth up to $75 out of box I have found her value around $20 but could go as high as $35

Intro Post

I have decided that I need to share my love for vintage toys. I am a child at heart that can’t give them up. I miss the days of playing endlessly with my barbies, my little pony’s, caerbears and strawberry short cake. For now, I collect, and sell them. Every week I am on the hunt to find old toys. Ones I had, and ones I didn’t . This is my blog to share my knowledge of them and spreading the joy they gave me, I hope you all enjoy my little piece of time.
